Gilbert man accused of killing woman, teen facing charges

GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) – Police say a Gilbert man suspected of fatally shooting a woman and a teenage boy in his home is facing two counts of murder after he’s released from a hospital.

Gilbert police say 35-year-old Matthew Crain was shot by officers along a canal Sunday morning. He remains in critical condition.

Police say Crain allegedly shot 33-year-old Stacey Steward and her daughter’s 17-year-old boyfriend Alex Tamborski around 2:45 a.m. Sunday during a dispute at the home Crain and Steward shared.

Responding officers found the two victims dead at the scene.

They say Steward’s daughter was able to escape and told police Crain was her mother’s roommate.

Tamborski was the girl’s boyfriend and happened to be visiting.

Crain fled the scene and was later shot after he confronted police officers hours later.
