A man holds knife to throat; Andrade port closed for hours Saturday

The Andrade port of entry is back open after law enforcement officials shut it down Saturday afternoon. Imperial County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Andrade road around 12:15 p.m. Saturday. Witnesses say a Hispanic man on the Mexico side of the border had a knife to his throat.
They tell us the port was closed until about 1:20 p.m., while officers tried to calm him down. Witness David Krawcheck said, “He was, in Spanish, yelling that he wanted an American ambulance, which he did receive. The police, or rather the border patrol, for almost an hour were constantly trying to ask him in Spanish to calm down, is there anything they can do to help, they even asked if they could give him water.” Officials with U.S. Customs and Border protection declined to comment on the incident.
