Anonymous tip leads to Subway robbery suspect

YUMA, Ariz. – An anonymous tip led the Yuma Police Department to the arrest of an armed robbery suspect who they say is responsible for robbing a Subway restaurant on 15th Street and Avenue B Wednesday.

29 year old Ruben Chavez Jr. was arrested Friday morning for threatening a Subway employee, taking money and fleeing the scene in a white four-door sedan Wednesday night.

Officer Joe Franklin said, “Based on his description and a tip, we followed up on them and led us to him and he was arrested this morning.”

Chavez Jr. was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center for armed robbery charges.

Franklin said, “We always ask the public to get in contact with us, this is perfect example.”

Police officials say there were no reported injuries.

Franklin says in a situation like this, it’s not worth risking your life, “What I tell any of them, it’s a high stress environment, there’s nothing in that restaurant that’s worth your life, get a description and call police. Let us handle it, it’s what we are trained to do.”
