PHOENIX (AP) – The Arizona Attorney General’s Office is warning of a
lottery scam targeting senior citizens.
Attorney General Mark Brnovich said Thursday that people have reported
receiving phone calls from someone claiming to be with the state’s Mega
According to Brnovich, scammers tell victims they have won the Mega
Millions lottery but need to pay $1,000 first to claim their prize
In some cases, scammers have allegedly offered to even drive victims to
Brnovich says a 90-year-old Mesa woman recently sent a certified check
to a Chicago address but then was asked to send another $20,000.
Her family reported the incident to Brnovich’s office as well as
allegations of suspicious vehicles near her house.
The attorney general says never wire money to someone you don’t know.
