Arizona Rep. Sonny Borrelli is pushing House Bill 2072, which would allow students and faculty at all public universities, colleges and community colleges to carry a concealed weapon on campus.
If the law passes, colleges across the state will have to come up with guidelines and policies to implement the law.
Chief of Police at Arizona Western College in Yuma says, “It doesn’t surprise me that it’s been reintroduced, because I think with the climate being what it is… I think eventually one of these bills will pass”
Edmundson says in his 10 years as Chief of Police at AWC, this is the Arizona’s fifth attempt at passing this kind of law.
“You have to be aware of the safety and security of the weapon at all times, so that is one of my concerns. Education, transition… people just getting used to the change of the law and the change of the atmosphere”
