Avoid I-8 and Dogwood Road

EL CENTRO, Calif. – The Dogwood Street over crossing is scheduled to be demolished Tuesday night.

Cal-Trans officials say drivers should avoid the intersection as Interstate 8 (I-8) will be closed in both directions between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Tuesday. Crews began working on the demolition Monday night.

Officials say traffic will be detoured to exit the freeway at the Dogwood Rd. off-ramp and then continue to the I-8 on-ramp. Dogwood Road will remain open.

The project will widen ramps and replace the Dogwood Road over crossing, widening the bridge as well. The improvement will reduce traffic congestion in the area according to Cal-Trans.

A phase of the project was completed in November last year. The $31 million project is scheduled to be completed by fall 2016.
