BRAWLEY, Calif. -The results for the first 24 hour period of bacteriological sampling are in for nine locations that represent the complete water service area for the City of Brawley. The results are negative.
The results for the second 24 hour period are anticipated to be available tomorrow afternoon. If the second sampling also has negative results, the City, in consultation with State Water Resources Control Board Division of Drinking Water, will rescind the Water Boil Advisory Order.
The city of Brawley is currently under a boil water order after a contractor ruptured a 24 inch water distribution pipeline. As a consequence, City of Brawley water customers experienced a service interruption that lasted twenty to thirty minutes. During this time, the affected pipeline was isolated. Because the water pressure dropped below the required standard and as a precautionary measure, the State Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water requires the City of Brawley to issue a Boil Water Order Notice. The City is in the process of delivering reverse 911 calls.
City staff are currently working on water line repairs. As such, the public is advised that the roadway segment on Malan between Brawley Avenue (Highway 86) and 1st Street will remain closed to through traffic until further notice.
Additional City communication will follow. The Boil Water Order Notice will be lifted once water quality data is available and confirmed as negative.
