Border Patrol agents arrest one marijuana smuggler,  help rescue six immigrants in distress

 

YUMA, Ariz. –Wellton Border Patrol Station agents pursued three illegal immigrants smuggling marijuana into the U.S. Monday morning near Gila Bend.

Agents arrested one Mexican national while his two counterparts were able to run away.  Agents seized nine bundles of marijuana weighing 198 pounds, worth an estimated $99,000, and will process the subject and drugs per Yuma Sector guidelines.

Also on Monday, Wellton Station agents provided assistance to the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office following a 911 distress call.  Agents from the Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue team, a Marine Corps Air Station Search and Rescue unit, and agents from Yuma’s Office of Air and Marine joined forces to rescue six illegal immigrants in distress near Dateland, Arizona.

One of the subjects, in need of medical treatment, was flown to Yuma Regional Medical Center.  The other five were treated on scene for minor dehydration.
