YUMA, Ariz. –A Yuma Sector Border Patrol detection canine team assigned to Wellton Station’s Interstate 8 checkpoint alerted agents to a pickup truck’s spare tire that had 65 pound of marijuana. Border Patrol agents said the incident happened Saturday afternoon. A subsequent inspection of the tire revealed the drugs that have an estimated value of $32,500.
The driver, vehicle and drugs were processed per Yuma Sector guidelines.
On Friday, Wellton Station Border Patrol agents said they helped four undocumented Mexican nationals who activated a rescue beacon in the Cabeza Prieta Wildlife Refuge.
When agents arrived at their location, everyone appeared to be in good health. Agents then them to the station for processing.
