CALEXICO, Calif. – A Calexico man is in custody for allegedly robbing a car at knifepoint at Friendship Park in downtown Calexico.
The Calexico Police Department said 22 year-old Jesus Diaz robbed a car Thursday from a victim who was visiting Friendship Park near the downtown port of entry in Calexico.
Police said the victim was beaten and threatened with a knife before his car was taken. Friday morning, police spotted the stolen Honda Civic and gave chase.
Police said Diaz drove at high speeds through several city streets until he made an abrupt stop and ran out of the car. An anonymous call helped police find and arrest Diaz,m who was hiding behind a home.
Calexico police believe on average one car is stolen in the city every day.
