A new commanding officer at MCAS Yuma for the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121 – home of the F-35 Aircraft
Lieutenant Colonel Steve E. Gillette relinquishes his command to Lieutenant Colonel James Bardo after nearly 2 years.
But Gillette isn’t going far. He’ll be working at the Marine Aircraft Group at MCAS. In his position he will oversee the operation of all the squadrons aboard the air station and will make sure everyone is provided with the right support to complete missions successfully.
“The marines at 121, I’m hugely proud of them and all that they’ve been able to accomplish and ill certainly miss them,” says Gillette.
Meantime, a new commander – an excited one – is taking over. Bardo, a graduate of Whittier College holding a B.A. in Biology has been all around the county with the Marines, but is ready for his new position.
“I’m most excited to lead these marines, to be a part of the f-35 program right now,” Bardo says, “We’re kind of on the tip of the spear right now and we’ll be able to execute whatever tasking the nation has for us.”
Bardo comes from flying with the harrier division at MCAS and is excited to take-off in one of the new f-35 air crafts with the latest cutting edge technology.
