YUMA, Ariz. – Since Alexa Felix suffered a heart attack on the field of play against Kofa back in December, the Cibola Lady Raiders have rolled through five straight games without a loss. The first of those games came against arch-rival Gila Ridge. Even though the Lady Hawks outshot them, the Lady Raiders beat them 2-0 back on January 6th.
Fast forward more than two weeks and these two teams would meet again; this time a potential playoff spot would be on the line for the winner. And this game would live up to the billing. After Gila Ridge put the pressure on Cibola early and not being able to capitalize, it would wind up costing them in the end.
Like the first game between these two programs, Xiomara Casillas would score the game winner in what would be a riveting match from start to finish. With the 1-0 win, Cibola would improve their overall record to to 7-1-1 and stay unbeaten in the section. Most importantly, the win would improve their playoff chances with the season drawing closer to it’s end.
Meanwhile, Gila Ridge’s loss puts them on the outside looking in; as they drop to 7-3 overall.
