City Invites Community to Discuss Rebuilding Creative Playground

“OMG, what is that…you know I stopped what I was doing. I was supposed to be heading home and I flipped a U…and I headed straight to the west signs because I knew that was the only thing that could be burning out here for a fire that big.”

That’s how one witness describes the tragic loss of the popular castle.

For years, kids around Yuma came out to the creative playground at West Wetlands Park to have some fun with friends and family.

In a matter of minutes, it was reduced to ruins.

Yuma Police continue to investigate. surveillance video shows a man passing through the playground area of the park just moments before it foes up in flames.

Mayor of Yuma, Doug Nicholls says, “Because of the type of structure it is, it went up and what looks like as you can see behind me that it’s pretty much a total loss.”

The city is strong in it’s efforts to rise as a community and re-build a new castle to remember old memories and create new ones for the future.”
