SEELEY, Calif. – Hundreds of people showed their support for Naval Air Facility El Centro by running and sweating this Saturday morning.
Over 300 people of all ages took part in the Sixth Annual Blue Angels 10K Run. The event brought together base personnel with supportive community members. Alejandra Marinez, who lives in Mexicali but works in El Centro, plans to continue showing her support next year.
“I can do it every year better than this year,” Marinez said.
El Centro resident Ana Jimenez shows her support in other ways as well.
“Post it in every social media website to support it.” Jimenez said.
Businessman Jaime Honold came out to enjoy doing something healthy with the family.
“I’m running. I’m having fun with the family. A fabulous 10K. Just to get out there and exercise and get active in the community is just all worth it.”
The run started at Sunbeam Lake, snaked past the town of Seeley and ended at the base. NAF Captain William Doster says it’s the lead-up to next Saturday’s air show and it highlights how the valley impacts the Navy’s needs.
“This kind of weather and the ability to do out here with the helicopters and jets is vital to naval aviation. We like to say thank you to Imperial County for letting us be a neighbor here,” Captain Doster said.
In a more practical way, retired Marine Robert Misemer summed up his participation this way.
“Support the military, support the Navy, support the Blue Angels – get a t-shirt,” Misemer summed up.
