BRAWLEY, Calif. – Congressman Duncan Hunter Jr. led a group of local wounded warriors on a dove hunting experience Thursday morning in Brawley.
Local veteran Robert Garcia, who was wounded in Iraq, said it’s a great way to help some veterans heal from their inner wounds.
Brawley hosted Hunter’s Annual Opening Day Dove Hunt wounded warrior project event.
Sixty especially selected local and out-of-town veterans took part.
They gathered before daybreak and went dove hunting at various parts of Imperial Valley.
Garcia remembers how the wounded warrior project helped him when he was in Iraq recovering from war-related wounds.
“On our free time we were taken out to concerts and we had comedians come over to the base and there was picnics, things to keep our minds off of the injuries and the suffering and things the troops went through,” Garcia said.
Congressman Duncan Hunter, Jr., is a veteran, also.
