Convicted child molester arrested in Calexico

CALEXICO, Calif. – A previously removed undocumented immigrant who was convicted of child molestation was arrested after he re-enter the U.S. illegally Sunday night.

U.S. Border Patrol agents say the 28-year-old Mexican national was seen walking into the country about seven miles east of the port of entry. Agents say they talked to the man and determined he was in the country illegally. He was arrested, booked into Imperial County Jail, and will now be criminally prosecuted according to agents.

In 2015, the man was sentenced to 270 days in jail after he was convicted of lewd acts with a child under 14 years of age.

“Whether it’s being good members of our community or arresting criminals who pose a threat to our nation’s youth. I am grateful for the work our Border Patrol agents do every day to keep our communities safe,” said Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim.

Agents say they have arrested nine convicted sex offenders for re-entering the U.S. this fiscal year.
