Yuma residents joined together and took part in this evenings Domestic Violence Vigil at the Yuma County Main Library.
The theme of this evening’s vigil is “stand up and speak out against domestic violence.” The vigil is meant to honor those who have died because of domestic violence, celebrate those who have survived, and connect with those who work to end violence with those in need of help.
We were able to speak with Nena Garcia who was the guest speaker this evening also a domestic abuse survivor.
Garcia said, “People were very surprised, people that have known me for over 20 years in the community. People have said, Nena you’re so strong how can you be a person that was involved in domestic violence and I said you know that’s because I’ve become a stronger person. I’ve used all of that hurt and pain to push me forward and become a strong person now.”
Around 100 people were in attendance this evening and the event concluded with a balloon launch.
