YUMA, Ariz. – A man was arrested after multiple gunshots were heard in several areas throughout the city, no reports of injuries or damage yet.
Yuma Police Department (YPD) officials say the arrested Mark Morris, after he was seen fleeing in a SUV from one of the areas where they heard gunshots.
Police say they were called out to the area of 3500 West 27th Ln. after gunshots were heard Tuesday shortly after 11 p.m.
Officers patrolled surrounding areas for the next 45 minutes and confirm hearing gunshots in three more neighborhoods.
Eventually officers saw Morris fleeing the area of 28th Street and Avenue B right after more gunshots were heard. Officers say they pulled him over at 26th Street and 33rd Drive, where they took him into custody.
Police say a handgun was found near the vehicle and taken into evidence.
Morris was in court Wednesday afternoon to hear what he is charged with. His charges include reckless driving, driving under the influence and criminal speeding. Morris does not have any charges involving weapons. However, more charges could be added to his case on Friday when Morris makes a second appearance for formal charges.
Police ask residents to check their homes, walls surrounding their homes and their vehicles for any signs of gunshot damage.
