YUMA, Ariz. – The Yuma Police Department has identified a passenger that died after a crash late Friday night in Yuma. Police say the passenger was 36-year-old Michael Locke. Officers have identified the driver as 28-year-old Nicholas Deters. Deters remains hospitalized in critical condition.
YPD said on Friday at 11:36 p.m., officers responded to a single vehicle collision in the 1400 block of South Castle Dome Avenue.
The initial investigation revealed a 2008 Chevrolet Corvette was traveling southbound on Castle Dome Avenue and left the roadway during the turn between the rear parking lot of the Shilo Inn and the Best Western hotels. The vehicle collided with a wall and Locke was ejected from the vehicle.
Locke was pronounced dead at the scene. Deters sustained life threatening injuries and was taken to the Yuma Regional Medical Center. He was later flown to a Phoenix area hospital in critical condition. Police said alcohol is a factor in the collision.
