PHOENIX (AP) – Gov. Doug Ducey says Arizona is remembering “19 brave men” on the second anniversary of the deaths of firefighters who perished during a wildfire in Yavapai County
The Prescott-based Granite Mountain Hotshots were overrun by flames in brush-choked canyon near Yarnell. One crew member who was at another site serving as the lookout survived.
Ducey says the firefighters represented “the very best of our state and our nation” and that their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten or taken for granted.
Ducey ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered Tuesday from sunrise until sunset.
