Eight people hospitalized in Somerton crash

Somerton, Ariz. – The Somerton-Cocopah Fire Department said eight people were injured following a three-vehicle crash Monday afternoon. Firefighters said the crash happened on County 15th and Ave. D.

They said a mid-sized sedan, a full-size sedan and a construction company work vehicle were all involved. Eight patients complained of injuries.  The mid-sized sedan had three young women in it and the full-sized sedan had four woman in it.  The construction company’s sole occupant was a male driver.

According to a bystander one of the vehicles struck the construction work truck in the intersection and completely spun it around.  The construction work truck spun then hit the other vehicle.  Officials said the mid-sized sedan suffered significant front-end damage with the driver sustaining a head injury and was complaining of knee pain.  Both of the passengers in that vehicle complained of knee and lower back pain.

The driver of the construction pick up and the full-sized sedan all complained of lower back pain with the passenger of the full-sized sedan also complaining of knee pain.  The Somerton Police Department provided on scene traffic control.  Rural Metro assisted by sending two ambulances. The City of San Luis Fire Department also provided an ambulance.

A total of eight patients were taken to the hospital. The accident scene is still being investigated at this time.
