Fire burns 1,400+ acres near Arizona California border

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. – A wildfire is burning near the border of Arizona and California by Lake Havasu City, the blaze being called the Topock Fire, has already burned more than 1,438 acres, according to fire officials. The fire is burning on both the Arizona side and California side of the Colorado River prompting road closures.

No buildings have been completely destroyed at this time according to fire officials. It is only 5% contained and officials say they expect it to get much larger. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said evacuations are in place for Park Moabi and surroundings areas. About 80 firefighters are working to contain the fire.

According to San Bernadino fire officials, the fire began around 5 a.m. Wednesday on the Arizona side of the Colorado River and it jumped over the water, catching and spreading on the California side. Officials are saying that weather conditions could make this fire harder to contain. We will continue to update you with the latest developments.
