YUMA, Ariz. – The Yuma Fire Department responded to a fire in the 300 Block of S. 10th Ave. in Yuma Sunday after 4 p.m. YFD said personnel arrived to find a large fire at the back of the house. The fire had extended into the home and had also spread to a neighbor’s yard, damaging a camper.
Firefighters were able to quickly contain and extinguish the fire. Fire damage to the home was limited to a laundry room and bathroom, with minor smoke damage to some other interior areas. Additional fire damage in the yard was limited to a storage shed and materials inside, as well as minor damage to the camper in the neighboring yard.
The fire was discovered by a neighbor who warned the residents. There were three adults and four children sleeping in the home at the time of the fire and all were able to evacuate safely. The home was not able to be reoccupied without repairs and the American Red Cross was called to provide assistance.
The fire originated outside the home and the cause is under investigation by both the Yuma Fire and Police Departments.
