YUMA, Ariz. – Firehouse Subs in Yuma, Ariz. donated a fire hose to the Somerton Cocopah Fire Department, valued at more than $15,000. Several people made it out Wednesday afternoon and showed their appreciation to these fire fighters and were happy to see them get the materials they need to do their job efficiently.
People at the event said the Somerton Cocopah Fire Department firefighters give selflessly on a daily basis to keep their community safe, but this time they made a stop at Firehouse Subs on Fourth Avenue, this time to receive.
Somerton Cocopah Fire Department Chief Paul De Anda said, “We submitted a grant for a brand new fire hose because we didn’t have enough money to purchase it.” De Anda said the item will help keep the community safe.
De Anda said, “The equipment we use lives depend on it, the lives of the residents, the firefighters who carry it… a fire hose especially.”
Firehouse Subs would like to encourage residents to donate to first responders. Robin Peters, executive director for Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, said, “A lot of the donations come from restaurant guests, their small change makes a big change.”
The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation is a non-profit organization with a goal of providing funding and life-saving equipment to first responders across the country. It will be doing many more of these types of donations throughout Arizona in a partnership with Arizona Public Service.
