Former Mayor Al Krieger injured in crash

YUMA, Ariz – The City of Yuma said Alan Krieger, former Yuma mayor, was flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix after being involved in a single-vehicle crash Saturday.

Yuma Police Department officers responded to the 1900 Block of W. 24th Street at 2:13 p.m. Saturday. The investigation showed Krieger, 61, was heading eastbound in the 2000 Block of W. 24th Street in a white 2003 Chevrolet Silverado truck. That’s when officers say the vehicle veered to the right, went off the roadway and collided with a brick wall.
Witnesses reported Krieger may have had a medical issue prior to the collision. Krieger was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center for serious injuries and was later flown to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix.
Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls talked about the incident during a Yuma City Council retreat Tuesday. Nicholls said, “I, the City Council and members of City staff have been following his condition the best we can.” Nicholls said, “All our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.”
The collision remains under investigation.
