YUMA, Ariz. – Year after watching her mother get the keys to a brand new home. A Yuma woman now has the same chance thanks to Habitat for Humanity. The Orantes family was chosen out of eight applicants to receive the next home. construction broke ground just across the street from the home presented to Celeste Orante’s mother last year. Habitat for Humanity selection committee made this year’s choice based on income and need. By coincidence Celeste won.
“When he first told me I was so happy I was about to cry. And living next to my family well it’s kind of great because if I need a babysitter I have her like right across the street,” said Celeste.
The Orantes family get to live in a home built by the community and its sponsors with a mortgage that is interest free. They will first have to contribute 250 hours of labor to their new home as well as another 250 hours to a separate non-profit to qualify.
