Hit and run fire

EL CENTRO, Calif.- A fire on Dogwood and McCabe road in El Centro, had firefighters busy all night.  The fire started at about 9 P.M on Sunday and still the morning after fire crews were sent out to put out hot spots.  The blazes and smoke could be seen from miles away.  El Centro and Imperial County firefighters worked together to battle the flames.  California Highway Patrol was also at the scene.  Details about this incident were confirmed by Fire Department and CHP officials. They say the fire happened after 23-year-old Heber resident Alfredo Bernal crashed the car he was driving into a drain cover and traffic post.  This caused dozens of trees to quickly catch fire. Witnesses say they saw someone pick up Bernal in a car and then they drove off.  CHP officers found the suspect at his home and arrested him.  Bernal faces a misdemeanor hit and run charge.  Officials say Bernal had alcohol in his system but he was not over the legal limit.  There were no injuries reported during this accident.
