A bridge collapsed in California on I-10 from heavy rains over the weekend. Drivers are now being detoured through Yuma.
I-10 is shut down between Desert Sun and Indio east of Coachella Valley.
Jeff Knutson, with the California Highway Patrol, says, “There is no estimated time on when the construction on I-10 is going to be completed. The freeway was completely washed out on the westbound side. So that’s going to take quite some time to not only rebuild the freeway but to rebuild the structure underneath the wash bridge as well.”
I-10 is one of the main interstates between southern California and Phoenix. The closure will force drivers to go hundreds of miles out of their way.
Westbound from Phoenix- exit 19 in Quartzsite, from there access 95 North or South.
Eastbound traffic from LA detour to 86 south that has access to 111- that leads to I-8.
