EL CENTRO, Calif.; Emergency calls throughout the Imperial County have been interrupted. Early this morning the El Centro Police Department informed through a press release that there phone lines and 911 were not working.
ECPD officers say that due to technical problems with the service provider, the 911 emergency system crashed around 4 a.m today. Later this morning around 9 a.m there business lines were back up but the 911 lines were still down. All incoming emergency calls are being directed to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department.
Other agencies throughout the county are also dealing with the same problem. Commander Robert Sawyer with the El Centro Police Department says this is an inconvenience for the public.
“It affected several communication systems including Highway patrol, Brawley and the Sheriff Department,” said Sawyer.
According to Sawyer as of 3 P.M today the 911 system was working intermittently. He said they will inform the public as soon as the emergency lines are working through their social media accounts. In the meantime the public is asked to contact the police department if they have any questions.
