Imperial County Free Libraries will close temporarly

CALEXICO, Calif. – Several Imperial County Libraries will be closing temporarily in August for annual maintenance.

During the closures, the city of Calexico is inviting the public to use their facility in the meantime.

Four of the free library branches in the county will close for a few weeks beginning August 4. The closures include Heber, closed August 4th-19th. While Holtville, Salton City and Calipatria are closed August 10th-19th.

During this time period, the city of Calexico is inviting readers to use their library for access to books and a way to beat the heat.

“We always welcome every Imperial County resident, we obviously have books, we have audio books, computers. Families are welcome to come and use our services, were also a cooling center, so everyone is welcome to our facility,” says Lizeth Legaspi, Reference Librarian.

You can drop off your book rentals in the drop box, but for heat sensitive materials, like DVDs, libraries are asking that you wait until they reopen. Any fines accumulated due to the closure will be forgiven according to county staff. Employees from each branch will also be participating in development activities and inventory during the closing period.

Legaspi also informed the public of an upcoming event, “We are going to include a family night on Wednesday at 6 p.m., those registered for the summer reading program are already registered. Those that are not, can come on Wednesday before the program starts at 5:30 and sign up your kid for the program.”

The closing library branches will resume regular office hours beginning August 22.
