CALIPATRIA, Calif. – A prisoner died at the hospital after officers found him badly injured in his cell.
Calipatria State Prison officials say they found the victim with multiple injuries early Thursday morning. The man had bruises, cuts, a broken nose and collapsed lungs, according to a prison report. His cellmate, Wallace Thomas, 51, was found with a swollen hand.
Both inmates were examined at the prison’s medial clinic. However, the victim was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
Thomson is currently in the administrative segregation unit where officials say he will remain during the investigation.
Thomson, who came from Marin County, California has been serving a 122-year sentence for rape since 2002.
