Local firefighter released from jail, alleged victim’s step-mother breaks silence

YUMA, Ariz. – Fourty-one-year-old Brian Wolgamot was released from the Yuma County Detention Center after the judge said there was not enough evidence to formally charge Wolgamot.

On Tuesday in Yuma Justice Court, Wolgamot was set to hear the charges against him, however the court said no complaint was filed to formally charge him and keep him in custody. Wolgamot was released from the detention center at 6:00 p.m.

The state attorney did request a follow-up investigation into the alleged incident involving Wolgamot. He could still be charged in the future if sufficient evidence is found.

Wolgamot was arrested on April 22nd and booked for seven counts of sexual conduct with a minor. According to the Yuma Police Department, for nearly five months Wolgamot allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.

The stepmother of the alleged victim, who asked to remain anonymous, called our station to say how she felt about Wolgamot’s release.

“Very disappointed and angry and sad at the same time. He knew she was 13.” said the victim’s stepmother.

The incident is still under investigation. We will update you as soon as new information is released.
