Locals talk about the celebration of MLK Day

YUMA, Ariz. – Locals talked about the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Yuma. People in the community believe it’s a day that speaks for equality. Vanessa Herrera, Yuma resident, said, “It’s important because his speech inspired many of us to believe that we’re equal and that there shouldn’t be no injustice in this world.”

Local Angelique Hernandez said, “Because everyone’s looking for peace and equality. It was a huge turnaround for America and if it wasn’t for that then we probably would still be segregated today.”

Tristan Rivas said, “It’s important because people need to star realizing that we’re all human beings and we’re all the same. We all bleed the same. We’re all the same people at the end of the day.”

Hernandez said, “I think we’re very accepting of everyone and very open to people’s different cultures and races and how they celebrate and what they do.”
