A police officer in Oakland, California shot and killed a suspect who was found asleep with a handgun in his car this morning.
Police were notified about an unresponsive driver with a gun who was parked near a highway off-ramp. They say two officers spent an hour trying to wake the suspect, and finally used a metal pipe to break the passenger-side window. According to police, the suspect woke up and the situation turned violent. The suspect died at the hospital. Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said the incident will be closely examined to make sure all proper protocols were observed. Police say the suspect’s gun was loaded and an illegal extended magazine was attached. They say the suspect’s vehicle was used in a burglary in San Francisco Saturday night.
