Man wanted for shooting located in Winterhaven

WINTERHAVEN, Calif. – The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office located a man wanted for a shooting in Winterhaven. ICSO said Tuesday Sheriff’s Deputies located 29-year-old Gregory Wayne Lopez in a residence located in the 1800 block of Firestone Street, in Winterhaven.

Sheriff’s Investigators had been attempting to locate Lopez since June 18, 2015 after a shooting took place in the 600 block of Ironwood Terrace in Winterhaven. The shooting resulted in a victim being hospitalized as a result of several gunshot wounds.

The victim, who was subsequently identified as 26-year-old Michael Kinale from Winterhaven, was flown to Phoenix and remained in an induced coma for several days.

Investigators continued the investigation which led them to identify Gregory Wayne Lopez as the alleged shooter.  Gregory Wayne Lopez was arrested for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon and is being held on a $500,000 dollar bail. The case will be submitted to the Imperial County District Attorney for review and prosecution.
