YUMA, Ariz.- In time for the first day of Mardi Gras, the Yuma Family YMCA is highlighting their youth programs with a Fat Tuesday theme for “My Y Week”.
De Ann Lyda, business manager at the YMCA, says, “Today is the first day of Mardi Gras but this is the second day of ‘My Y Week’ which is our two week celebration that is a Mardi Gras theme with the ‘Kid at Heart” as the secondary theme. We are really focusing on our youth fundraisers and our youth programs and initiatives.”
Aside from being a gym, the YMCA is a non-profit organization and the money they are raising over the next two weeks will benefit youth programs at YMCAs across Yuma county.
They have childcare and military programs that will benefit from the initiative, alongside having raffles and taking donations based on community needs.
