PHOENIX, Ariz. – A judge found Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio to be in contempt of federal court Friday.
The Maricopa County Sheriff violated court orders to reduce racial profiling by his deputies.
Three of his top officials were also found to be in contempt.
Arpaio is known for his staunch anti-immigration stance. His agency is accused of systematically profiling Latino drivers.
The man who labels himself as “America’s toughest sheriff” could now face huge fines and more oversight.
Another hearing is set for May 31.
