Mesa mayor leading effort to end veteran homelessness

PHOENIX (AP) – Mesa Mayor John Giles has been selected to help lead a national effort among mayors to end veteran homelessness.

Giles will serve as the co-chair in a bi-partisan effort reaching out to more than 850 communities across the country.

The task force Giles is heading will partner with federal agencies to teach, support and grow the numbers of mayors involved in the Mayors Challenge to End Veterans Homelessness,

Giles first joined the Mayors Challenge to End Veterans Homelessness in January 2015 and has since found permanent supportive housing for more than 70 veterans.

The task force is planning its first meeting this winter in Washington D.C.
