YUMA, Ariz. – Two men with a rifle tied up and robbed an elderly man in his hotel room.
Yuma Police Department (YPD) officers say the victim was traveling through Yuma and was staying at the Motel 6 on 16th Street and Arizona Avenue in Yuma. He claims the two men knocked on his door shortly after midnight Tuesday.
Sergeant Lori Franklin with YPD says, “When he opened the door two adult males pushed their way into his room.”
The suspects tied the victim with his own belt and held him at gun-point while searching the room.
“They took his belongings in a bag. It was an unknown amount of cash and some personal items,” says Franklin.
The suspects fled the scene and police are currently searching for them. After the men left, the victim waited until he thought it was safe to untie himself and call for help.
Franklin says, “He did not have a phone and he could not use the phone in his room because the cord had been yanked out. When he felt it was safe, he went down to the lobby and called 911.”
Officers say one of the men was wearing a black mask with a skull on it. The suspects are described as Hispanics in their 20s.
