New Year’s Eve Safety reminders

YUMA, Ariz.-

While everyone is ringing in the New Year, it is important to do it safely. Mike Erfert with the Yuma Fire Department has some reminders to keep you and your family safe this holiday.

Legal fireworks should be lit in open areas and only on private property. They are not allowed to be in public parks or in the street. Though there are legal fireworks, they can still be dangerous. Even Sparklers can burn up to 1200 degrees. Another big safety hazard is firing guns into air. There have been incidents in the past of bullets coming through ceilings. If you are caught firing your weapon you could face prison time and your weapons may be confiscated. Be sure to keep an eye on things cooking on the stove and keep all matches and lighters away from children.
