Phoenix man accused of setting fire in home during argument

PHOENIX (AP) – A Phoenix man is in jail after police say he set a fire in his family’s home during a dispute with his wife.

Police spokesman Trent Crump says 44-year-old Jeffery Frye was booked Sunday on charges of arson, aggravated assault, endangerment, resisting arrest and criminal damage.

According to Crump, police received a domestic violence call to Frye’s home just before midnight.

Crump says Frye is suspected of assaulting his wife and then starting a fire in a closet in the master bedroom.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze.

Police say Frye’s wife as well as four children escaped the fire without injury.

Frye attempted to leave as officers showed up.

Crump says Frye then assaulted an officer, causing minor injuries.

The incident remains under investigation with fire investigators assisting.
