WINTERHAVEN, Calif. – The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office is searching for 18 year old Mychelle Shepard, they suspect her of shooting two people Saturday morning. ICSO would not identify the two victims but say they have since been released from the hospital. Several residents we spoke to in the neighborhood where the shooting took place say she is the daughter of one of the victims but officials could not yet confirm that for us. Shepard is still on the loose and considered armed and dangerous according to ICSO.
The shooting on Saturday led to a police standoff at Ironwood Terrace in Winterhaven, which is on Quechan tribal land. Police surrounded a home, they believe Shepard was held up in, for several hours while they awaited a search warrant. After entering the home ICSO say nobody was found inside. ICSO says this is the second shooting at the same house within the last two months but they do not believe Shepard was involved in the past incident.
Many residents we spoke to say the incident started after an altercation at Maverick’s bar in Yuma. We spoke to the owner of Maverick’s bar Monica Beard who says that is not the case, she says “The night before we had local bands playing as we will tonight. we had no incidents we have security”
ICSO says attempted murder charges are being filed against Shepard. Little is known about what had led up to the shooting. If you have any information about this case and what may have led up to the shooting please contact the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office.
