San Luis, AZ – 9 families celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony for their future self help homes. It Is part of the efforts by a nonprofit called Comite de Bienestar to provide housing for low to moderate income households. The program locally known as neighborworks gives families the opportunity to help build their own homes, rather than paying a down payment. They work on the weekends, earning equity as they go. Funding comes from a national program through the USDA, which has now provided 50,000 homes.
