Rural/Metro helps Imperial County battle wild fire

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. – A wild fire has created a large plum of smoke near the California – Arizona state line north west of Yuma.

5:46 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol has blocked off State Route 186 leading to Algodones, Baja California, Mexico. The road closure is set up just south of the Quechan Casino and Resort.

CHP officers say the Andrade port of entry and Sleepy Hollow RV Park have both been evacuated.

3:21 p.m.

Imperial County Fire Department and Rural/Metro crews are working to put the blaze out, according to Charly McMurdie.

McMurdie says the fire is near the Sleepy Hallow RV park in Winterhaven. So far no homes are in danger.

It is unknown at this point how the fire started.
