IMPERIAL, Calif. – The shortage of pilots in the United States impacted airlines throughout the country, including the Imperial Valley.
The only airline in the Imperial Valley announced the cancellation of its services last week.
Seaport Airlines informed they’d be interrupting all programmed services as of January 15, 2016. According to the company the shortage of airline pilots impacted business and operations.
Seaport Airlines served the Imperial County as a convenient way to travel to cities like San Diego, and Burbank, among others. Although the majority of travelers related business, Imperial County supervisors say this impacts the whole community.
City and county officials will be traveling to Washington D.C. in the next few days to meet with Department of Transportation officials to discuss the possibility of a new airline for the Imperial Valley.
