Shooting at Northern Arizona University; local reactions

A confrontation between students in a parking lot at Northern Arizona University turned deadly early Friday when, police say, a freshman pulled a gun and shot four male students, killing one.

We spoke to an officer at the local Northern Arizona University extension campus to hear his reactions.

Office Jose Encinas said his first thoughts were, “The thought that it could happen anywhere anytime they tell us that in the academy from day one, never live in a world where this won’t happen here, this is yuma, it could happen anywhere.”

We reached out to a student who attended the Flagstaff campus and now attends class at Arizona Western College in Yuma. Sam Schleiger said, “I couldn’t believe it, I didn’t think it would ever happen at NAU.
