SLPD arrests burglary suspect

SAN LUIS, Ariz. – The San Luis Police Department said officers arrested a man after he was found in a stolen vehicle, and later found out he is a deported felon.

SLPD said officers responded to the Moctezuma Apartment complex, locate in the 300 Block of Juan Sanchez Blvd. Saturday, July 4 at about 11:40 p.m. When officers arrived they found 30-year-old Samuel Reyes sitting inside a vehicle that did not belong to him.

Officers gave commands to Reyes to put his hands up in the air and to not move. Reyes ignored all commands and exited the vehicle. Reyes fled from officers and a foot pursuit then ensued across the apartment complex with Reyes running without any type clothing on.

SLPD Officers were able to catch up to Reyes as he attempted to jump over a wall. As officers attempted to take Reyes into custody, he began to fight with officers and began resisting.

Officers had to deploy a taser in order to take him into custody. Reyes was booked into the Yuma County Detention Center on the following charges: Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer Resisting Arrest Residential Burglary Possession of Stolen Property Trafficking in Stolen Property.

During the course of the investigation by officers, it was found that Reyes had burglarized two apartments. It was also learned that Reyes is a deported felon who at the time was illegally in the United States
