Smoke bomb evacuates Yuma Walmart

YUMA, Ariz.- Shoppers evacuated a smoke-filled Walmart on Avenue B late Friday night.

Yuma Police Department (YPD) officers say the suspect, a man,  attempted to shoplift using a smoke bomb as a distraction, so he could take some items.

YPD says sections of the building were closed off for more than two and a half hours following the incident.

Yuma Fire Department’s Mike Erfert said, “It had been some sort of chemical reaction and once they checked out that there was not anything harmful the police department then took over the case.”

Yuma police say the suspect took off in a white passenger car.  The investigation is ongoing.
