Yuma, Ariz. – The GoFundMe account that’s being used for the victims of the Orlando shooting has raised a record amount of over $3.8 million in just three days.
However, it’s important to remain cautious when donating to online websites. Officials say to research the company beforehand and ask questions. The regional director for the Better Business Bureau, Janet Torricellas, in Yuma says to ask for some sort of proof that you donated and to never give out your personal information.
Torricellas said, “We have to keep in mind that our personal information is going out there to donation centers we do not know of and if you’re already donating, maybe stick with those charitable companies that you’re donating with already because you already know where your money is going and who it’s going to benefit.”
