Stuff the Bus raises nearly $80,000

YUMA, Ariz. – The community came together Friday for the annual “Stuff the Bus” drive, all in an effort to help kids going to school next month get the supplies they need.

The goal this year is to raise $80,000 to provide more than 6,000 backpacks for students going back to school. Many Yuma residents came out to donate backpacks, pencils and more. There were also free face paintings, snow cones and water for anyone who came by.

Yuma County Superintendent of Schools, Tom Tyree, says the long running event is expanding every year and brings the community together to help.

“The last two years our goal has been right around $80,000 and over 6,000 backpacks so it is something that has a big impact on our community and we have a lot of students that we really help get off to a good start in the school year,” said Tyree.

So far, officials say they have raised about 75 percent of the money. They would like to thank everyone who came out to help.
